Art and Artists Art Glass Art Glass differs from stained glass. The quality of Art Glass can be assessed by the colored light it reflects within a space. The color is actually part of the glass, not painted or stained. Brad Butler of Butler Fine Arts of Indianapolis, Indiana, designed and created the Art Glass panel displayed in the Narthex and the Five Panel Series above the Sanctuary (right side). These panels depict the universe and the eternal journey (Ribbons of Light) from “Glory to Glory.” The Five Panel Series is dedicated to the Memory of Cindy Swarts, our first Liturgical Design Consultant, who has returned to God in Glory. Holy Family Sculpture The Sculptor, Karen Schmidt, of Brea, California, first conceived the idea for the Holy Family Sculpture on an artist’s retreat in 2004 at St. Pius X during the early days of Building Church: People & Place Church design. The sculpture depicts Jesus, Mary and Joseph and may be appreciated from different places in the Narthex and at varied angles. From one perspective, the child Jesus is lifted joyfully by Joseph and beheld by his mother. From another angle, the silhouette of Jesus prefigures the cross. Life, joy, suffering, death, resurrection, life . . . Our journey from “Glory to Glory.” The statue is bronze and is mounted on a granite and mahogany base. Art Finishes Parishioner, Antoinette Feinman of Artistic Impressions, LLC of Montville, New Jersey, designed and created the Stations of the Cross tableaux paintings, Narthex Venetian Plaster and other wood and stone fine finishes. Architecture James Hundt Architect, James Hundt and Ted Lutz, Project Managers, of Clifton Park, New York. Builder Benard Associates, Benard Thomas, Jr., President and Benard Thomas, III, General Manager of Wayne, New Jersey. In Gratitude Special thanks to other crafts people, trades and professionals will be made in a separate celebration publication. May the Lord continue to bless all who shared their time, talent and treasure for the completion of this phase of our project Building Church: People & Place. An opportunity for memorial remembrances will be made available in the near future for all who pledged to the project. Gifts are still being gratefully accepted. Future Church - Next phase. |
